A statement from the AMS

Like you, the Association of Marshall Scholars is sickened and angered by recent events.

The tragic killing of George Floyd – like Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other Black Americans over the years -- is a horrific reminder of the systemic racial inequities that have plagued our nation for generations.

The public outcry and protests that have erupted around the world are shining a light on the painful reality that Black Americans face every day. The AMS stands with those who are exercising their constitutional rights to Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly. We are resolute in our view that everyone should be treated equally under the law. Where we see injustice, we believe that unity gives us strength and the power to drive change, progress, and ultimately peace.

Among our members and across the many communities that we serve, the AMS is committed to supporting equity and inclusion. If you would like to engage directly with the AMS in this vital work, please let us know: Nell.breyer@marshallscholars.org.
