AMS Statement on the Passing of Her Majesty

The Association of Marshall Scholars is saddened by the loss of Her Majesty The Queen.

Her life and legacy are examples to all who aim to serve the public good through dedication and charitable service.

The Queen’s kindness, generosity, and resilience remind us of the shared humanity and enduring friendship underpinning the close ties between the United Kingdom and the United States. The Queen’s words of encouragement, shared with the AMS in 2017, underscored our two nations' "steadfast commitment to our common cause of freedom.”

After World War II, Britain, under her leadership, worked together with the United States and other countries to build a world based upon freedom, democracy, human rights, and cooperation between nations.

The Marshall Scholarships established by Her Majesty's Government in 1953 remain part of that effort.

Our thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III, our patron, and the bereaved members of the Royal Family at this moment of global loss and profound sorrow.
