The Association of Marshall Scholars (AMS) together with the Booth Business School at University of Chicago hosted public officials, business leaders, economists and finance policy experts for a two-day Forum on strategic and economic issues, June 17-18, 2024.
The Marshall Forum considers strategic and economic issues impacting the future of transatlantic cooperation, peace, and security. The 2024 Marshall Forum focused on the role of global markets, monetary policy, and innovation.
Media coverage of the forum
AMS President Scott Grinsell (2004) was joined by Booth Faculty Eric Budish (2002) and Jen Nou (2002) who opened the Forum with a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Marshall Scholarship. Delegates were welcomed to Chicago by UK Deputy Consulate General for Chicago John Murphy who thanked all the alumni who gave their time to support the reading and selection committees. Speaking at the event Murphy said:
“Through the Marshall Scholarship, the UK government has sought to ensure that we continue to celebrate and spread our shared values of freedom and democracy. Even 70 years on from the first Marshall scholars making journeys to the UK, still recovering from war, the legacy they spread of transatlantic cooperation and solidarity lives and grows as they return to the US and to forge new bonds built on that cooperation.”
The opening event concluded with the presentation of the Marshall Medal to Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook in recognition of her trailblazing work as a distinguished civil servant.
The second day of the Forum continued with in-depth discussions across global markets, monetary policy, and innovation.
