Brad Lander is a member of the New York City Council from the 39th District in Brooklyn. His background in community planning has helped him advocate for better and greater investments in neglected New York city neighborhoods. Before his time in government, he directed the Fifth Avenue Committee, which is a non-profit community based organization dedicated to managing affordable housing. In 2000, he was the recipient of New York Magazine's Civics Award. Under Mayor Bloomberg's administration, he was the lead advocate for affordable housing in major development projects. Lander's work has been dedicated to supporting the livelihoods of marginalized individuals in the city, specifically through grass-roots organizing.
