Pioneering Equity in Economics
Lisa D. Cook has been a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors since May 23, 2022. She is the first African American woman and the first woman of color to sit on the Board.
She was Professor of Economics and International Relations at Michigan State University and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Dr. Cook was nominated by President Biden to serve on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on macroeconomics and international economics. Dr. Cook previously served as a Senior Economist in the Obama Administration's Council of Economic Advisers, on the faculty of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Deputy Director for Africa Research at the Center for International Development at Harvard University, and a National Fellow at Stanford University.
